How Ion Exchange Water Softeners Work

1. Hard water enters the softener tank containing resin beads charged with sodium ions.
2. As hard water flows over the resin, calcium and magnesium ions bind tightly to the resin, releasing sodium ions into the water.
3. Silky soft water exits the unit, preventing scale buildup permanently.
4. When resin beads become saturated, the automatic multiport valve initiates a brine (salt water) rinse cycle to flush out trapped calcium and recharge the resin.
